Closed Eye Visual Hallucinations (28/365)

What do you see when you close your eyes?

This question was never really one I’d thought about asking other people, but when you do the answers are interesting. For some, they see darkness, pitch black, and to be honest I think at some point we all do.

For others they see vivid lights and moving images, it’s been described as psychedelic and interesting experience. A lot of the descriptors are that it’s like a kaleidoscope and there are even videos on Youtube to with comments all surrounded by people’s shared experiences seeing this phenomenon when their eyes are closed.

For the small percentage of us what we see is more than bright colours and shapes, but actual images of things that are as detailed as what we see with our eyes opened. Some can be quite fun, like nature, scenery and sometimes it can be quite creepy.

Personally, I’ve experienced a whole range and never felt comfortable talking to people about it, since there’s a massive risk of sounding crazy and I didn’t want to deal with any backlash. But I’ve seen scenes, images, people, faces and so much more, it’s gotten to the point that I can make it happen on purpose and that’s quite fun.

The creepy stuff will never be fun though so I’m in the process of learning to switch that off!

I never knew what to call them until I did an intense googling session since I wasn’t selfish enough to believe that this was a unique experience. On the world wide web, the most common phrase for this is a ‘closed eye visual hallucination’ which to be honest describes it perfectly.

Have you ever seen a vivid image when your eyes are closed?
