Kim Kardashian is one of those polarising public figures – you either love her or hate her. She has a reputation for many things, plastic surgery, reality tv and honestly just for bringing contouring to the mainstream beauty world. She also changed the standard of beauty for our current time, which is where some of the hate comes from, but to be perfectly honest most of the standards of beauty are ridiculously difficult to achieve. Apart from taking cheeky nudes though, she’s also doing a lot to help people and personally I’m kind of a fan of how she’s used her platform for good.
When she stated she was studying law, the reactions were very mixed, some people judged her for it, and some loved her for it. Her response to the haters was:
“One person actually said I should “stay in my lane.” I want people to understand that there is nothing that should limit your pursuit of your dreams, and the accomplishment of new goals. You can create your own lanes, just as I am. The state bar doesn’t care who you are. Everyone can take this route if you live in a state where this is allowed.”
I’ve got a lot of respect fo how she’s using her power and education to help people – she’s been literally freeing inmates who have been wrongly jailed, or jailed for a ridiculously long amount of time. In the case of Alice Johnson, who was sentenced to a life sentence for a low level drug conviction, Kim went to meet with Trump himself to request a pardon.
She’s also been vocal about prison reform and is actually helping more people than a lot of celebrities out there. She freed 17 inmates in 90 days, and that’s without a full Law degree. Say what you want about her, but at least she’s using her money to make change, she’s not all talk and despite every bad thing she’s done she’s actually learning and growing as a person.
It doesn’t seem like this was a sudden decision she made, it seems like she’s been planning this for a while and is actually working towards her Law degree and making real change in the world. Which is something that should be respected, I’m not ignoring all of her past actions and scandals, but it’s good to see celebrities use their power, fame and money to help people as opposed to just being all talk.
